What is the black stuff on my roof?

The black stuff on your roof is an algae (Gloecapsa magma). The algae reproduces and leaves black streaks on the surface of your roof. Unless unchecked it can shorten the lifespan of your roof.

Do you walk on my roof?

We are typically able to perform the roof cleaning from the ground or a ladder. We also use unique equipment-- a long carbon fiber wand that allows for maximum reach. Some roof walking may be required in special circumstances. We have all of the fall positioning equipment so every job can be completed safely.

Do you have insurance?

Does the black stuff harm my roof?

Yes. An algae infestation can harm your roof and can shorten the effective lifespan of your roof. This is true for both asphalt shingle roofs as well as tile roofs and cedar shingle roofs. It is best to have your roof cleaned before the algae causes harm to your roof.

How do you clean my roof?

We are an authorized Softwash systems roof cleaning company. We have a special process where we apply a 100% biodegradable solution to your roof. This solution provides a 100% kill ratio that penetrates all the way to the root system of the algae.

Do you use a pressure washer to clean my roof?

NO! This is absolutely the WRONG way to have your roof cleaned and can actually harm your roof tremendously. If you have an asphalt shingle roof a pressure washer will blast away the protective granules from the shingles and lessen the effective lifespan of your roof. If you have a tile roof a pressure washer can remove the coloring from the tiles as well as damage the grout that appears at the peaks and ridgelines of your roof. Pressure washing your roof can void your roof warranty. A Softwash roof cleaning approach (using NO High Pressure Equipment) is recommended by the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association).

How long will the roof cleaning last?

There are number of variables that will determine how long your roof cleaning will last. Trees hanging over your roof, angle of sun on roof areas (sun/shade exposure), build-up of organic matter, etc. are just a few variables that will determine how long your roof cleaning will last. In order to provide a long lasting roof cleaning our Softwash product will leave behind a spore inhibitor on the roof itself.
